Amado Ruiz-Razura, M.D. is a native of Guadalajara, Jalisco-Mexico. Graduated from the University of Guadalajara Medical School and served as a fellow in the Division of Neurological Surgery and as a general surgery resident at Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals in Houston.
He completed his plastic surgery residency training at the "Dr Jose Guerrerosantos" Institute of Plastic Surgery of the University of Guadalajara. Continued his training at the Institute of Reconstructive Surgery of New York University and became a microsurgery fellow with the Cronin, Brauer & Biggs Clinic Association and the Plastic Surgery Service at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston. In 1986 he was appointed Director of the Microsurgery Center and in 1999 he was the director of the Institute of Plastic Surgery at St. Joseph Hospital. Today , he serves as the medical director of the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery (ACPS), one of the largest private group practices for aesthetic plastic surgery in Texas.
Dr. Ruiz-Razura is a professor of surgery in the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He was a founding member and past president of the Society of Latin American Plastic Surgeons of the United States and Canada (SLAPS) and past treasurer of the Iberian Latin American Federation of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (FILACP) the largest organization of hispanic plastic surgeons in the world. For 15 years he was co-director of Operation San Jose, a charitable volunteer goodwill program sponsored by St Joseph Hospital Foundation to operate children with cleft lip, cleft palate and facial deformities. In addition, he has fully organized and directed for 14 years an international clinical training program to educate plastic surgeons in reconstructive microsurgery . He has being a mentor to more than 1000 surgeons in Houston and to 189 plastic surgeons in 11 different countries.
Dr. Ruiz-Razura is a member of the Houston Society of Plastic Surgeons (HSPS), The Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons (TSPS), The Plastic Surgery Research Council (PSRC), fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) , fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS), the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery (ASRM), the World Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery (WSRM), the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery (ASLMS) and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).
Dr. Ruiz Razura has received multiple awards and recognitions for his contributions in developing techniques, procedures and instrumentation in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. He has published 5 books, 3 book chapters, 80 original articles, 29 surgical videos, 3 instrument patents and has made over 600 scientific presentations worldwide. Has been recognized in several ocassions by his patients and peers for his dedication and passion to deliver the most comprehensive patient care. Has been interviewed by the news media while receiving awards from national and international societies for his humanitarian efforts to benefit the underprivileged patient .

El Dr. Amado Ruiz-Razura es un médico mexicano, nacido en la ciudad de Guadalajara, Jalisco y graduado de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Guadalajara. Realiza 4 años de cirugía en Baylor College of Medicine en Houston, TX.
Inicia su entrenamiento en cirugía plástica y reconstructiva en el Instituto de Cirugía Reconstructiva de Jalisco de la Universidad de Guadalajara y continua en el Instituto de Cirugía Reconstructiva de la Universidad de Nueva York . Realiza un fellowship en Microcirugía con los Drs. Cronin, Brauer & Biggs en el servicio de cirugía plástica del St. Joseph Hospital en Houston. En 1988 es nombrado Director del Centro de Microcirugía y profesor de cirugía plástica y reconstructiva en la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Texas en Houston. Actualmente es el director clinico del Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery (ACPS) la practica privada para cirugía plastica estetica mas grande de Houston y del estado de Texas.
El Dr. Ruiz-Razura es miembro fundador y ex-presidente de la Sociedad Latinoamericana de Cirujanos Plásticos de Estados Unidos y Canadá (SLAPS) y ex tesorero de la Federación Ibero Latinoamericana de Cirugía Plástica (FILACP).
Por 20 años el Dr. Ruiz-Razura fue el Co-Director de “Operación San José”, programa voluntario de beneficencia social para tratamiento quirúrgico de pacientes con labio, paladar hendido y malformaciones faciales. Ha conducido este programa en México, Honduras, Panamá, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Perú y Ecuador, donde más de 1200 pacientes han sido operados con excelentes resultados.
En 1999 el Dr. Ruiz-Razura fue invitado por la Organización Mundial de la Salud (WHO) en Ginebra, Suiza como consejero seccional de labio y paladar hendido en Latinoamérica.
En 1986 el Dr. Ruiz-Razura inició un programa internacional de capacitación clínica en microcirugía y ha impartido doce cursos de adiestramiento quirurgico en México, Perú, Panamá, Costa Rica, Rusia, Rumania, Arabia Saudita y Venezuela, habiendo entrenado a más de 850 microcirujanos en Houston y 189 cirujanos plasticos en 8 paises.
El Dr. Ruiz-Razura ha publicado 5 libros, 4 capitulos en libros de texto, 3 manuales quirurgicos y 80 artículos originales. Ha brindado mas de 600 presentaciones internacionales , 29 posters científicos y 27 videos de ensenanza en cirugía plástica, estética y microcirugía reconstructiva.
Ha recibido varios premios por sus contribuciones cientificas dentro de los que destacan:
- William L. Benson Memorial Award por parte de la Asociación de Hospitales del Estado de Texas
- Premio Anual 1984 de la Sociedad de Cirujanos Plásticos del Estado de Texas
- Premio Nacional de Lasers en Cirugía Plástica 1988 otorgado por la Asociación Americana de Cirujanos Plásticos,
- Premio Anual de Investigación 1990 de la Sociedad Americana de Cirujanos Plásticos
- Premio Anual 1992 del Colegio Americano de Cirujanos
- Premio a la Investigación 1994 de la Sociedad Americana de Cirugía con Láser,
- Tres veces ganador del Mejor Póster Científico de la Sociedad Americana de Cirujanos Plásticos (1991, 1993, 1996),
- Dos veces ganador del Mejor Póster Científico de la Sociedad Americana de Microcirugía Reconstructiva (1994 y 1998)
- Primer lugar . Premio de la Asociación Americana de Cirugía de la Mano (1996).
- Padrino de Generacion . Residentes 2002-2005 del Instituto de Cirugía Reconstructiva de la Universidad de Guadalajara. Marzo 2005 .
El Dr Ruiz-Razura es el inventor de los micro expansores de “Ruiz-Cohen”, utilizados para elongar arterias en forma transoperatoria y autor de tres patentes de instrumental para microcirugía endoscópica y liposucción del contorno corporal.
Ha participado como profesor visitante en 26 países y es miembro de 18 sociedades científicas dentro de las cuales destacan: La Sociedad de Cirujanos Plásticos de Houston, Sociedad de Cirujanos Plasticos de Texas, Sociedad Americana de Cirujanos Plásticos, Sociedad Americana de Cirugía Plástica Estética, Sociedad Internacional de Cirugía Plástica Estética, Fellow del Colegio Americano de Cirujanos, Fellow del Colegio Internacional de Cirujanos, Miembro del Consejo Americano de Investigación en Cirugía Plástica, Sociedad Americana de Microcirugía Reconstructiva y de la Sociedad Mundial de Microcirugia Reconstructiva.
En Latinoamérica el Dr. Ruiz-Razura es miembro correspondiente de la Asociación Mexicana de Cirugía Plástica, Estética y Reconstructiva, Sociedad de Cirugía Plástica, Reconstructiva y Estética del Perú, Sociedad Colombiana de Cirugía Plástica, Estética, Maxilofacial y de la Mano, Sociedad Ecuatoriana de Cirugía Plástica, Reconstructiva y Estética, Sociedad Guatemalteca de Cirugía Plástica , Sociedad de Cirugía Plástica y Reconstructiva del Cono Sur, Sociedad Panameña de Cirugía Plástica y Sociedad Hondureña de Cirugía Plástica.
El Dr. Amado Ruiz-Razura ha sido reconocido por multiples universidades y sociedades medicas por sus labores como profesor, investigador, y cirujano altruista. Ha sido condecorado por el gobierno de México por su participación en programas quirurgicos de beneficiencia social para las clases más necesitadas tanto dentro como fuera de México.
